Hi

tis is abot of a follow on form a previous thread and is about my install of server and workbench.

The machine we use got corrupt and we could not get into the server admin tools, we have unisnstalled using full method, including deleting left folders and the regedit etc....

But when we load the server again it gets to the point of setting the account security up but fails (we have turned firewalls and virus software off and tried all sorts) but it keeps failing. If we skip it obvioulsy does not give the correct credentials.

So if I go the Mysql> command prompt and out in -uroot -p (it will only accept password as balnk) and for instance put grant permission of some other commands in I get the below, I tried to SHOW GRANTS;

It does not show much but what I noticed it had the user name missing

''@'localhost'[using password: Yes] "

Where my good version on my laptop has

'root'@'localhost'[using password: Yes] "

So I dont think the username is there hence we have big problems, but no matter what command we try it says we dont have grant permissions or privileges.

As anyone got any idea how to get round this and make our install ok again (it is a windows 7 machine). I have exhausted the web for solutions.

Any ideas anyone please...

Thanks

Sorry to bother people, but does anyone have any ideas on this one.

Thanks

Sorry its the weekend, anyway, I'm not sure what the problem with the installation may be. Perhaps you need to scan your hard drive for any errors that may be preventing the correct installation of mysql.

As it stands I'm really baffled at the symptoms.

When the setup fails setting up the security does it issue any type of error?

Are you sure the user as which you are installing mysql has the permissions to fully install software.

I'm grabbing at straws here.
