Hello,

In the database I am using I try and design a form I built and the button does nothing, just sits there. Other forms in the same database work fine and I can design them with no problems. One other odd issue is that if I transfer the database to another system I have (laptop) and design it on there, it works fine. It just seems that I cannot design it on my desktop. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi kswiss,

Sounds like your database is corrupted.

Copy & paste the database (so you have a back-up).

Then create a brand-new database, and import all objects from your copy to the brand-new db.

If it works on a different PC I'd say it was an Office installation problem, rather than a problem with the database. Perhaps worth trying a Detect & Repair or full reinstall of Office?

I read of a similar problem on here recently and the cause of the problem was, apparently, tracked down to a video driver problem. I'm not convinced though.... :)

kswiss,

DO NOT re-install office (not at this point anyway).

I've come across this problem many times, and my first reply should sort it.

Thanks Darrylle, is it advisable to drag and drop from my existing database to the new one? Or go through the export/import process for all my objects?

Thanks -Kent

I don't think it makes a lot of difference, but I always use File>Get External Data>Import from the *new* mdb file.

Still not convinced this is a database corruption though... :)

Thanks Ed, I believe your assumption is correct. I created and new database and imported all my objects and the same issue is present. I believe it must be a MS Office installation problem and a complete reinstall might be neccessary.

Have you tried putting a breakpoint on the command button click event (ie in the code) and use F8 to step through to see if anything is happening.

Does the database compiles properly on your desktop ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Hi,

How about doing the same as before: importing everything into a new database EXCEPT the problem form.

In the original database form copy all 'problem form' code to a notepad, then set 'HAS MODULE' to No in properties of that form, and save the form.

Import the 'empty' form into the new database and paste the code into it's module. Go into VB design of that form and Debug -> Compile.

Out of interest, did you copy ANY form from another database application?

The Database compiles fine. I tried the copy of the empty form and that does not seem to be the issue at all. We just had a computer refresh here and it might be a symptom of that new image on my machine. The tech is currently re-installing SP2 for Windows XP to see if it is not a local problem to my database. I will report back with the conclusion.

After many days of research a tech at my client site reinstalls Windows XP Service Pack 2 and everything is fine, forms design properly and no other issues. Wow, who would have thought. But I just wanted to update this thread with my resolution and thanks to all those who helped.
