Just this past week I have been having problems with connecting to the internet through my university's LAN. The problem I can see is that it is unable to connect to the DHCP server and retrieve my IP info. I did absolutely nothing to the computer to cause this. I just went to bed and woke up the next morning to find my internet no longer functioning. I tried every trick I know. I used the ipconfig /renew (which told me it was "unable to connect to the DHCP server") and everything. I tried to set up a MAC miniport, but my card is not designed for it. I updated my drivers. Could it just be my university is blocking me (which I an unable to confirm) or is it a big WinXP bug? Let me know thanks.

Your university did something.....

Did you contact them? They may be having problems. What did the University say about it?

Indeed they can make reservations based on MAC adress.
DHCP is not designed having security.
Did you ask your colleagues? Do they have same problem?
DHCP is based on broadcast, so possible if they add a router between you and them to not be able to receive DHCP offers. The router has to be set to let those packets cross it, or there should be a DHCP relay on your network side.

I hope that it will help you.
