Hello,

I've been asked to make some enhancements to an application written by someone else. I've loaded all the files on my workstation but when I fire up the app, I get a message:

"\\server1\gls\sys\gls_data.mdb is not a valid path. Make sure the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides."

After clicking OK through that message, I get a macro Action Failed dialog. I click halt to end it. I am not on the server and I've copied the gls_data.mdb file on to my workstation. I go to the design view of macro it just does an OpenForm for the switchboard. I opened the VBA editor to look for where the path is set but I can't find it.

The changes won't be that difficult, but I would like to do the development on my system instead of the production system. Can anyone give me a clue on where to look so I can run this app?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

1. Check to see where the tables are linked. Could be one or more tables are linked to the server in question.

2. Check your references

FancyPrarie,

I now see the tables are linked to the server and that's where it's pointing. Now, is there any way to change the links from the .mdb file on the production server and point it to the .mdb file on my dev station?

Thanks again

Yes, goto to TOOLS | DATABASE UTILITIES | LINK TABLE MANAGER. Then select the tables you want to relink (make sure the box entitled "Always prompt for new location" is checked). Access will the prompt for the new location.
