cannot find urlrewrite

Hi there,
I have a Debian box and I am trying to find the URL rewrite load module in httpd.conf but its not there.
In most of the websites, it says that apache do come with that line of code.
WHen I type it in manually, and restart apache, it gives me an error on that line.

module rewrite_module is built-in and can't be loaded

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial on this please?

isn't it called 'mod_rewrite'? most all modules use 'mod_*' as the naming convention.
