My nephew has a XP box which was working fine. He was playing around and now any time he trys to run a program from a desktop shortcut or the start menu he gets a pop up window that says it cannot find the file, but the file is there. This includes control panel, windows explorer. Now if I go to a command prompt and run the program it works fine. any hints or suggestions. He is running the home version.

Thanks

You could bring up the properties for the shortcut and check that the target information is correct. (Right click on shortcut).

Perhaps the easiest option would be to use the System Restore program to return to a point before the problem started.

If that is not the solution try using the System File Checker program by typing Sfc /Scannow in the Start Menu Run Box. This will check your System Files for you. It will require your XP CD.

Let us know how you go.
