Hi,

I've been getting a headache trying to connect the only laptop with Win98 in the company to my Windows2000/NT network. If I could show you the screen shots of the TCPIP settings you would probably say that I got them all right. Especially since I tried them several ways just to make sure. But when I reboot and login to the domain I get the error "Cannot find DNS Server." I've manually set these values on dozens of windows 2000 systems so I'm pretty sure that they are right, except for that "Host" fill in. Can anyone tell me about a commun error or something to double check. More info. later.

Thanks,

Victor

Can you ping the IP of the DNS server? Go by what is entered in the DNS tab of TCP/IP properties. If you can ping it, then we're looking at something else. If you can't ping it, then we're looking at the wrong address, bad cable, port on hub, network card, etc...

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I'm sure you have but it doesn't hurt to ask... have you set up a user account on the W2000 machine?

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Did you give the win98 machine a host name in the dns settings and pointed them to your domain?
