Hi, i've got a small network - all windows 2003 servers. Today i've downloaded a zip file for an application that needs to be installed on 2 of my servers.
On one server this job took about 30 seconds - extracted the files, ran setup.exe. Job done :)
On the other server i'm still wondering how to do it. When you extract the files you do not get either of the 2 exe's or the msi file.

I have got round this problem by copying files manually from the server which allows complete extraction but i would love to know the answer cos this one is aggravating me! I built both those servers and they were configured identically, i don't see why they are behaving differently.

right click the zip file and choose properties. Then down at the bottom see if there is an option to "unblock"
Then try again

Thanks, but i probably should have mentioned that unblocking doesn't affect whether the exe's are extracted out of the zip file.

Anyway i think i've answered my own question - in case anyone else needs to know....
Behaviour caused by internet explorer's security settings. (tools/options/security/miscellaneous section: 'Launching applications and unsafe files' must not be disabled).
Difference in servers was the version of IE.The one that worked was on IE8. The server that wouldn't extract exe's or msi's was on IE7. I just upgraded it and now i can extract fine.

But the more i look at this i think even this might not have been necessary, if you check your trusted sites - not all of my local network had been added as trusted sites. I have added them now, but makes me think if they had been added as trusted sites on IE7 then it might have worked.
