cannot empty the clipboard

very very annoying message which seems to originate in Excel but affects all other programs....

when I try and copy a cell in Excel I get the message "cannot empty the clipboard", even though according to the clipboard toolbar there is nothing there.

Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem with Excel 2000 on Windows XP Pro. I have tried reinstalling Office. I have made sure that there are enough resources available and everything.

I am not sure if the clipboard is somehow affected by the network (we have a W2000 network and use roaming profiles).

Has anyone every come across this problem? This has only started happening recently and I did not make any software changes before it started.
