We have three domains on a flat network and cant get mail to go from one domain to the other. Each domain has a router, switches, and Windows servers and a DNS (part of one domain). Connectivity is not a problem. Can ping, telnet, and DNS SEEMS to be working ok. NSlookup is working from all domains. When sending mail within each domain, it works fine. From one domain to the other the error is:

Unable to deliver the message due to communications failure. The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=us;a=;L=<exchange server andzulu time stamp> msceh; <domain><exchange server 3902> (000B09B6) Host unknown.

Built LMHosts files to reflect exch servers, One domain has exchange on an NT box and the other two exchange servers are on 2000 boxes. Has to stay that way.

IP's are:
Domain A X.X.1.X
Domain B X.X.2.X
Domain C X.X.3.X
Any suggestions would be great

I work with Novell's GroupWise e-mail system. But I was in the neighborhood and thought I would respond. When reading the error you were getting it sounded to me like a DNS problem. On that assumption I took a quick look on the Net and found this. Hope it is of some benefit.

I agree, it may be a DNS problem. Try changing the server names (ie EXCHSRV1) to the actual IP addie of the server and see what happens.

Are you using DHCP? If so, are you hard coding the DNS/WINS stuff; or are you letting DHCP handle it?

Static IP's on all your workstations? How many do you have in your domain then?

That's a different issue... Give the IP thing a try and let me know what happens. If it works with the IP and *not* the name, you know it has to be a DNS error.
