I have a IPS 2000.I have a problem in PIM6 slot LT00. All the extensions that are assigned in this LT cannot dial at all. Dial tone is present but nothing happen when we press the buttons. I have also tried changing the card and no luck. It's a 4 port analog card.I don't understand why this is happening.

Any ideas?

It sounds like a register problem. Do you have a card in your system called a PN-8RSTA? If you keep trying repeatedly on one station can you eventually dial?

Basically, there are registers in the system to receive DTMF digits from analog stations. There are a couple built on to the CPU, but if you have a lot of analog stations it is usually not enough. If you are familiar with MOC Mode check command B00>072>. This will show you the number of times all registers have been busy.

Yes I do have a PN-8RSTA and command B00>072> gives this:

B00>072:3-

The registers have been busy 3 times?

Yes, that is exactly what it means. However, this is hardly excessive. When you get dial tone on one of the analog stations am I correct in assuming that you can not even "break" dialtone. Meaning that dialing a digit does not make the call go silent. If this is the case it is definitely a register problem of some kind. Also, as I suggested above if you just continue to go off hook and dial can you eventually "break" dial tone.

Yes you are correct I cannot break dialtone.Nothing happen.
I will try to break the dial tone as you suggested and let you know how it goes...

In fact when I press a button the dial tone stop, so I guess I CAN break the dial tone but it is not dialing anywhere.Even with an inside call.

Check the counter again to see if it is increasing. Also, be sure that when you break dialtone you are not able to dial an extension. For example, if your extension numbers are 1XX press 1 when going off hook. If you DO break dialtone with the 1, then dial the remaining 2 digits. I think you will find that you can dial successfully once you have a register.

BTW, how many analog extensions do you have in the system? How many 8RSTA cards do you have?

The counter is not increasing. The dial tone is coming back right after I press the first number so I'm not sure if we can call that breaking the dial tone, it's maybe more like interupting it right now.

I only have one 8RSTA card in my main PBX.The main PBX has 287 analog extensions and 156 digitals.

Have you tried resetting the system? The issue you are describing can happen if the time slots in the system get corrupted. If you reset the system, time slots get re-assigned.

Well I have tried to avoid that but I'll see if a software reset can fix this.I will try it tonight.

A reset solved my problem.Thank you for your help.

You may want to keep an eye on this counter going forward. You already have a pretty high ratio of analog stations to registers. If you continue to add analog stations you may need and additional 8rsta card.

Is there any way to know how many analog stations a 8rsta card can accomodate? I don't think that I will have more than 300 analog stations for this PBX.

On a busy switch with analog phones I usually use a ratio of 1 8RST per 100 sets. If you analog sets are not that busy then I usually go one card per 150 to 175. Remember you do have registers on the CPU to help out also. The main issue you will get trouble reports on is when a user picks up the handset they will complain they do not get a dial tone. If a register is not available the user will get no dial tone or delayed dial tone meaning that if they stay off hook they will get dial tone once a register is available.
