Cannot decode block. Verify the device configuration.

I recently inherited the responsibility of doing backups for our department on a system I'm not at all familiar with and I am getting lots of backup failures.

Pretty much every time a full backup runs, I see errors in the logs such as:

I am using Legato Networker 7.1 on Solaris 9 and an ADIC Scalar24 with LTO-2 tapes. There are two problems here. The first is that almost every tape is being prematurely marked "full" after a Media Error. And the second issue is that after one tape is marked "full" due to errors, all of my other jobs fail because it looks like they are trying to use the same tape.

Is this most likely a settings problem, lots of bad media, or a failing tape drive (of which I only have one). And yes, I have already cleaned the drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Premature fulls point to a hardware problem (device or media). Shutdown NetWorker and check with other tools.

The other jobs will fail if you selected a device for a pool and this has been disabled as well OR if there is no other media in the pool/jukebox which NW can recycle.

NW 7.1 is very old. I would update first, if possible.
