Hi

I have a Windows 2008 r2 64 bit server I am trying to promote to be a domain controller. However when I run dcpromo I get an error message after I have clicked next when selecting the existing domain.

It says "...you must first prepare the forest by running adprep/forestprep.." However if I run adprep/forestprep on the existing dc's nothing happens. The other two dc's are Windows 2008 sp2, does this matter?

How can I get adprep to run properly?

Thanks

Run forestprep from the R2 disc on the Schema Master?

Mspain is correct. When you run the forestprep you are updating the AD schema to be compatible with 2008 R2 domain controllers. This has to be done from a 2008 R2 source. Running it from a downlevel DC will not be sufficient.

Yep that fixed it, thanks so much.
