I have a slight issue with a Helpdesk system that I am trying to configure. It is an entry level SQL database product by Layton Technologies.

It is a web based system and has an internal report designer, which could be better to say the least!

I have created an Access ADP and have connected to the remote server and can view and add data.

However, I cannot make any changes to the structure, or create views. The error message is that I do not have exclusive access to the database at this time.

I get the same error message even if i log in with exclusive access.

Does anyone know if this is because the data source is not held locally or any other clues as to how to solve this issue (if at all possible).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Views are stored on sql server so you need the appropriate permissions on sql server to create the views. For example, if you are using NT Authentication then your id must be granted the correct level of permissions on the various objects, such as, tables and views.

Thanks for your reply,

I have given myself full permissions, but still says when i even try to create a new view or table that I need to have exclusive access.

I can, however, create modules and reports, which makes me worried that there may not be any way to manipulate the views and tables from Access (only on the server itself).

Can anyone confirm if this may be the case?

I have Access 2000 and can create Views and Stored Procedures from Access. I don't remember on the tables, since I don't have my development environment with me at work. I believe I heard on later version Microsoft changed the interface to Views and Stored Procedures. Hopefully, somebody else can answer this, or check the Microsoft documentation.

Cheers for that, at least I know i am not barking up the wrong tree, maybe just a long one!
