Cannot create mail lock file"

All,

I'm hosed. My Tru64 system V5.1 no longer has it's /var/spool/mail and all the user files. My backups didn't work as ArcServe advertised.
I tried making new directories a making a new user but am receiving "Cannot create mail lock file".

Help.

Thanks for the response. I remade the /var/spool/mail path and opened permissions again. This seemed to get things flowing again.
Now I gotta get a realistic backup system running... But that's a whole nutter story.
