Hi!
I have setup a maintenance plan through Enterprise Manager on my server (SQL 2000 Standard sp3).
I'm having difficulties with the creation of an operator.
What are the steps to do this?
Do I need to install MS Outlook on the server?
How can I test it?
Thanks!

MS Outlook only needs installed if you actually need to email your operator. Two other options are Page and NetSend.

Of course, you could just create an SMTP job step that emails people via SMTP if there is a job failure/success. That way you don't have to mess with operators.

What kinds of errors are you getting when creating your operator and what interface (Enterprise Manager / Query Analyzer) are you using?

Thank you, Catadmin.
Something about MS Outlook as default email client.
And when I send a test email from my operator (successfully, enterprise says) I receive nothing.
I was almost sure about MSO.
But your idea of an SMTP job is very good, too.
I will work on both, and I 'll get back.
Thanks again!

No problem. Just let us know if you need any more assistance.
