Hello:

I hope someone can shed some light on this issue, I have
the Oracle9i client packaged and I copied it to the root
of a DFS share.

When I create the SMS package for distribution I'm seeing
an error message stating " The distribution manager failed
to update package.

I can map to the root of the Dfs server from the SMS site
server.

I've also checked my package properties again, I hope some
one can shed some light on this one. Heeelllllpppp!

I guess you are trying to use the benefit of DFS (Site Awareness) by installing the Distribution Point on the DFS root.

This, however, won't work with SMS 2.0. AD information that create site awareness is not part of SMS 2.0

You should have a folder shared something like \\servername\smspkgf$

This is where SMS will place your packages...check the security rights on this share.

Do you get this message for new packages as well as for updates to existing packages?

Thanks for your input, I should have specified that we're using SMS2k3.

It appears to have been a permissions issue regarding the Dfs share.

I brought it to the attention of the Server admin and it's been resolved.

Thanks again for your response.
