When I back up large text files containing JPEGs to a writable CD drive (standard CDs, not re-writable)they seem to write out OK. When I try reading them back in, it reads some of it. Then it seems to slow down and keep trying to read more of it (from the drive's light pulsing it seems to be in error recovery). Eventually it stops and says the file isn't good and it can't read it.

This happens consistently with all text files that have JPEGs (other than tiny text files with only one JPEG). It also happens when I copy a lot of JPEG-only files at one time. Some random JPEGs are always corrupted. This seems to also be the case with copying MIDI, WAV and RA files. (It doesn't seem to happen if I copy only one or two JPEG-only files at a time.)

I would think there was some overrun problem but I don't get any errors when writing the files out. However, often it tells me its written it out but hasn't done the physical writing. I have to try forcing it (I try reading the file back in from the cd) to force the physical write.

The result of all of this is that I cannot rely on any backups that I make.

The CD drive is part of an IBM T23 laptop . I am using Roxio for copying the files under Windows 2K.

1. How much memory do you have installed?
2. Did it ever work?
3. How much hard drive space is available? ("Burning" uses a large space on the harddrive for a temp file)
4. Is this drive compatible with 2K?
5. Upgrade the Roxio software.

I would add:
Change your media type (differant CDR's)
Slow down your writes (try writing at half the writers top speep eg if 52x then try 24)
