On one of my G4s running OS9.2, the Energy Saver Control Panel is absent. I tried to drag one from another G4 and place it in the System Folder Control Panel folder but I get an error message when I try to copy: Cannot copy item because an invisible item already exists. Is there a trick to getting rid of an invisible control panel? A file find does not locate it.

Try expanding the options for the file find to show hidden items... then delete the bogus file. You may also try to run Norton Utilities' Disk Doctor to remedy this.

Acquire a copy of ResEdit 2.1.3 from Apple's website. Among other things, ResEdit allows you to set file attributes like visibility.

1. Launch ResEdit
2. From the FILE menu, select GET FILE/FOLDER INFO
3. Navigate to the Control Panels folder
4. Select the "invisible" control panel
5. Uncheck the INVISIBLE attribute and save.
