Hi,

I am experiencing a strange problem trying to connect one particular P.C. to SQL Server. I can connect okay via Query Analyser, but when I try and establish a connection with Enterprise Manager it gives me a message saying that the SQL Server cannot be found. I have tried installing the MDAC 2.7 components but to no avail.

The server is configured to authenticate users based on their NT account and I can connect via all data sources inc. ODBC on my machine.

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tony.

It could be a bad install of Enterprise Manager. If you can access the database from the computer by QA and ODBC connections, but not by Enterprise Manager - then I suggest reinstalling Enterprise Manager.

Hi SQLBill,

While I can access the db on my own pc, the one which is faulty cannot accees via ODBC either as I discovered when a pivot table I designed could not connect.

The SQL Server is also running Analysis Services, but I cannot access OLAP cubes either.

Thanks,

TOny.

So you have one computer that cannot connect to the database server at all via ODBC.

I have had this problem, in fact I just went through it last week. It usually indicates a problem with the ODBC drivers. Download the latest MDAC version (I think it's 2.7) and install that. It should fix it.
