i have looked through almost all this forums and couldnt find one that helped just installed windows 7 on a notebook and trying to get it to join my domain thats windows server 2003 r2 it is set up very simply just active directory, and file server i was able to connect all my win xp computers to it fine no problem but just after install of windows 7 on this laptop when i try to join it ask the user name and password of who has the permission to join login, then i get this error

"an attempt to resolve the dns name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. please verify this client is configured to reach a dns server that can resolve dns names in the target domain."

this is the first time i worked with windows 7 and im a lil bit a novice in server 2003 but any help would be great thanks alot

Make sure the DNS on the Windows 7 box points to the AD DNS, and not some public DNS. It's basically saying it can't find the DC, which usually points to a DNS problem.

I could be off base here but in earlier versions of Windows the OS had to be the "professional" version to join a domain...
