Hi I'm new to VPN. I need to create a vpn inside my local LAN. My PC running window 2k professional and my VPN server running window 2k server.

I already created a VPN client at my PC and created a VPN in server at Window 2000 server under "Rounting and Remote Access"

When i connect from my vpn client i am getting connection fail when verifying username and password.

I already open my PPTP port in my firewall but still cannot connect.

Please advice. Thanks for any reply

Hi thanks for your reply. Actually the error messages i am getting is ERROR 649: the account does not have permission to dial in.

Thanks for any reply

You need to allow dial in access on the user account.

Hi thanks for your reply. How to allow dial in access on the user account? Is it i need to configure something on my vpn server or client PC.

I really have no idea.

please advice. Thanks again

Hi everyone,

I already created a user account at my "RRAS" server but when i try to connect to remote PC it show me the following error message

"The connection attempt failed because your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols"

The remote PC error message is

"Error 919: The remote computer refused to be authenticated using the configured authentication protocol. The line has been disconnected"

I try to match my security setting on both PC and server still not successful.

Please advice, thanks for any reply

On your W2K server you must allow dialin access for any and all users via the user policies/profiles.

Open ADUC, double-click on the user account, click on Dial-In tab, click on Allow Access. Give it a try. Just to be sure, test it on another computer within the lan before attempting it outside your lan (ie from home computer).

Hi thanks for all your reply. I already allow dail in access but still cannot connect to my vpn server.

Actually i am trying to configure a simple vpn within my local network. I have my vpn server running win2k server and vpn client running win2k prof. I have no firewall in between just a switch connect to my server and pc.

I have no problem setting up a vpn server running Linux and vpn client running win2k pro.

I really have no idea how to test out my vpn window2000 server. I am getting error message721 "The remote computer did not respond" when "Verifying username and password " screen

Is there a way to test out my window 2000 vpn server?

Thanks for any reply

Edward
