When trying to connect to the internet via I.E. on XP Home i get a message saying:'windows cannot connect to the internet, probably due to firewall settings, check firewall settings for http port(80) https port(443) ftp port (21)'.
In network connections, the connection states 'connected firewalled'. does anyone know what i can do to get myself connected, the only firewall i see is windows firewall that i can turn off but the connection stays the same as firewalled.

See if the Winsock fix mentioned here gets you going.

WinXP Connectivity Issues
faq779-4625

My daughter had an issue like this after cleaning up malware on her XP Pro machine.

I found the connection was set for a proxy server which the cleanup probably removed.

Check the internet options -> connections tab -> Lan Connections button. If the use proxy is checked, you might want to uncheck.
