Redundant SX2000; LW32.

Cannot connect to SX2000, either through dial-up or direct connect to Maintenance Port. I tried an Activity Switch on the front panel, but nothing happens.

Maybe someone could refresh me as to the procedure for a front panel Activity Switch (I know it is simple and I think I did it right, but it is so long since I have even seen the front panel....)

Can I initiate any kind of hard re-boot?

Any ideas?

Performing an activity transfer from the maintenance panel is dangerous because there is no warning given if forcing the activity transfer will knock the system down. In our organization a front-panel invoked Activity Transfer is against policy.

You might want to try connecting to the maintenance port on one of the peripheral nodes. The beauty of doing it on a Per node is that you will -always- be connected to the active plane.

The disadvantage of using the per node maintenance port is that you are in fact always connected to the active plane, meaning you cannot connect to the inactive side when the need arises.

Default baudrate is 9600 8-N-1
Control-W will repaint the screen
Control S will execute X-off
Control Q will execute X-on

Note well that repetitive Control-W commands will queue-up resulting in as many screen repaints as there are COntrol-W's in queue (so don't keep hitting Control W)

Are you using MCIII-E controllers with Ethernet cables connected to them?

OK. This is embarassing. I came in this weekend to do this work, removed the cover to look at the Main Controller cards and lo and behold - there is only one. This site is not redundant like our other site. When I called the installer yesterday, he had suggested an activity switch. He was leaving for vacation, so I guess his mind was not all here.

So, no possibility for an activity switch and still cannot connect through dial-in or maintenance ports, even on the pernode.

The controller reads MC215AD III E. There are no ethernet cables connected.

All the phones are still functioning normally, but I need to make some changes.

"Panel Enable / Reset A" is starting to look pretty good right about now....

Any thoughts?

Make the sign of the cross & do it. Doesn't sound like many options at this point.

Thanks. I did that, of course, and everything is working just fine now.

Thanks for all your help, MIMB.

If that happens to you again type cntl-C. Sometimes a print enable gets hung up and the serial interface is unavailale.
