cannot connect to SQL Express 2005 using native sql client - VM ware

Hello,
I have an instance of SQL Express 2005 running on a virtual server (VM Ware). I am able to connect using the native sql client when I am on the server, but if I try to connect from a remote server, I am getting an error - "Login Timeout expired"

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Check all the basics. Is SQL setup to allow remote connections? Is the Windows firewall in the way? Is another firewall in the way? This FAQ faq962-5481 covers the basics.
