Hi All,

I use Outlook 2000 not with Exchange. It is behind the firewall- ISA Server 2000. I'm unable to send and receive emails (POP3) I get the error message "Cannot connect to the server ..."though I've specified the SMTP and POP servers correctly.

Pl. help to shoot out this problem

Are you able to ping the servers?

Have you checked to see if there is more that one profile created in Outlook in the Control Panel just to make sure that the wrong profile is not being called? joegz

I have the same problem, did you come up with a work around. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if the initial person was resolved but I would start off with posting the same question to you. Can you ping the server?

If you can you can try editing your HOSTS file and adding the ip address and dns name to it and see if your application can resolve the name in this manner. joegz

HI All,

I'm not able to ping the Mail servers. Strangely One of my client is able to connect thru Outlook!. I'm a newbie to Network Administration and MS technology is driving me crazy!

Anyway, all those who have thsi problem try configuring the ISA server as per the instructions found at
All the best guy

Thanks for all the help. I finally got all of my Outlook 2000 mail clients able to send and receive e-mail outside the local LAN. The problem was IP packet filtering needed to be side up correctly.
