Using VPN from a remote office, I can connect to exchange 5.5 server successfully through outlook 2003. Now, I remove this exchange 5.5 server and install new exchange 2000 server. However, I cannot connect this new Exchange 2000 Server. It said outlook cannot find this exchange 2000 server.

How can I change the setting of exchange 2000 server to solve this problem?

Thanks for any help with this...

no item related to this event display in event log. i can ping this exchange 2000 server through ip. i also add name and ip in "hosts" file.

so, i did not have any idea about this.

You can also set your network connection's DNS to your internal server for primary, and OpenDNS's server secondary.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

i had added in "lmhosts" file but it doesn't work. i don't want to build DNS in our network. i think it should be ok if i add info in hosts and lmhosts file. However, it is not ok.

What can I do now? i really did not have any idea.

You don't want to build DNS in your network? Exchange needs AD which needs DNS.

sorry, i have confusion about it. I have DNS server which install in Domain Controller machine. I can connect exchange 5.5 through VPN. However, I cannot connect exchange 2000 throght VPN.

Do i need to add something in DNS server?

thanks,

Set your network connection on the computer that you're using to connect to the VPN to point to your internal DNS server, then try to connect to Exchange.

Clearly you didn't do that when I advised it.

No...on your network connection (however you're connected tot he Internet, wired or wireless) - Properties - TCP/IP - enter your DNS server as primary, pick a public one as secondary (such as OpenDNS).
