I have used BCM Monitor with our BCM400 before but cannot connect now. I get "Unable to connect (192.168.1.2) - error 80004".
I can connect with Element Manager no problem with the same credentials.
I can connect to our BCM50 with both Element Manager and BCM Monitor.

The BCM400 was restarted last night and my colleague was able to connect with BCM Monitor through the firewall at that time. (I was unavailable).

This morning I tried but cannot connect either on the LAN or from the outside through the firewall. (My colleague is unavailable now.)

Any ideas, ladies and gentlemen?

Thank you.

Try the LAN2 port assuming that your published IP is on LAN1. It might be that the system didn't do a clean power up.

What I would consider is to do a controlled rest via Element Manager but also check the patching levels. Your BCM 400 should have the following patches installed.

BCM 4.0
==================================

PATCH ID: BCM.R400.SU.System.034-201206 Category: GEN (Reboots System and apply first!)
PATCH ID: BCM.R400.SU.Desktop.020-201203 Category: GEN
PATCH ID: BCM.R400.340-CTE-1.5-1.0 Category: GEN (Reboots System?)

Are you sure that is the IP of your BCM on the network?
I think 192.168.1.2 is the default IP if you hook up a laptop direct to the Lan port

The default IP address range for a BCM 200,400 and 1000 etc tended to be

LAN1 = 10.10.10.1 SUBNET = 255.255.255.0
LAN2 = 10.10.11.1 SUBNET = 255.255.255.0

BCM 50 / 450

LAN1 = 192.168.1.2 SUBNET = 255.255.255.0
OAM = 10.10.11.1 SUBNET = 255.255.255.252

Thank you both. I'll report back.

try downloading BCM monitor from the BCM itself and try that.

That's odd as I have just started to get the same problem with an error code of 80004. A reboot of the BCM will restore the Monitor tool, but it stops again after a few days. I was going to do a full software reset and start again with a current backup copy, but as you are having the same issue, then I'm wondering if others are now seeing the issue?.

I am absolutely sure it is not a Java issue - BCM Monitor is a Windows application that does not use Java. The error 80004 is a network I/O error generated when BCM Monitor attempts to connect to the BCM system. Based on that, the problem is caused by some kind of a network connectivity issue. Starting Wireshark on the PC with BCM Monitor and taking a look at the packets sent by BCM Monitor and responses (if any - probably not) should provide clues.

My monitor is working again now after the reboot and I have two different computers that it works on. I will monitor the monitor, Ha-ha!

After another reboot I was able to get BCM Monitor to connect to the BCM400. But after 2 days I cannot connect from the inside. Or the outside. Same error 80004.

Our LAN2 IP is 192.168.1.2. It is the Published IP. It's what I use to connect EM and BCM Monitor. This IP is NATed in our firewall to a public address. My colleague is often (always, maybe) able to connect with BCM Monitor via the public address when I am unable to connect to the 192. address.

(Our LAN1 IP is 10.10.10.1 but it is not connected to anything.)

The only thing that seems to work consistently is to restart the MSM service. The BCM Monitor will then connect.

Thanks to all for your input.

Hello Trey

That is useful to hear. My BCM Monitor has been left connected since that last reboot and all is OK so far.
