I'm having problems with a Merlin Legend and I am very much a newbie at this. We purchased it with a building my company bought and I'm the lucky one that was asked to configure it.

So I did some research and I got a copy of WinSPM. I've been trying the direct connect with my laptop with no success. I've used two cables - One is a standard cisco type terminal cable, the other is a cable I made based on pinout information that I obtained via one of these tech sites.

I've manually gone into windows and configured COM1 at 2400/8N1/No flow control and again with flow control.

Any tips on what to troubleshoot? I've been playing with this thing for the past few days.

I can try a modem but I have two problems:

1) Don't know where to plug in the modem since all are lines are 8 pin

and

2) Even if I got it to work, I don't have the previous owner's password.

The actual admin port (the lower port) is on a module that says R3 Processor. I'm confused because there is a single LED and a 8 led on it, neither are lit. Is this thing even on? Our phones do work currently so I know this thing is on and switching.

Help!!!

Get a 9 to 25 pin adapter, a 355 adapter , and d8w cord. works everytime.

can use the following pinouts to make your own cable, no 355a adapter or other adpater needed.

db9 rj45
2 5
3 6
5 4
8 7
7 8

thanks tim

Or use a modem on a Tip/Ring port, dial *10

Or call in from an outside line, and transfer yourself to *10
