Cannot connect through Linksys router

I have a Windows 2000 computer and an XP computer hooked to a Linksys BEFW11S4 V2 access point/router box. Both computers do have internet access through the access point. However, I cannot get the 2 computers to talk to each other.

On the 2000 machine, if I go to My Network Places, the XP computer does not appear, but the 2000 does. However, if I do a run/ cmd \\computername, the XP does appear. I marked that C drive as shared, and I can open it. But, I can't open any of the folders on it. Do they have to be shared individually? I thought you could tell it to share all contents of a folder.

On the XP machine, the 2000 computer shows up in My Network Places, but access is denied, even though I have shared the C drive. Linksys tech service has been very helpful in getting to this point, but says that these problems are security issues and they do not address those.

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. – Ham Rutledge

First, on the XP machine make sure that under TCP/IP properties, Advanced, DNS, that "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP" is checked and LMHOSTS disabled.

Second, add all users of machine A to machine B, and vice-versa

Three, share something, anything: printer, drive, folder on all machines.

Fourth, make certain your logon for all machines includes a username and password. The use of blank or empty passwords will not succeed without group policy changes.
