cannot connect on mac os 9.1

help guys im mac iliterate, when i have a customer try to connect using a mac he gets error;

remote computer not responding correctly check the configuration of the control panel.

can you guys tell me what this means on a mac computer.

Is he trying to connect to the internet? Connecting to another Mac? connect to a PC?

if it is connecting to a PC, you may need DAVE
