I failed to uninstall NortonAV 2004 when I upgraded from Windows ME to WindowsXP-Pro. I tried to reinstall it after XP was installed. I deleted it from Add/Remove, and everything I found in search only to receive promps telling me that I still have Norton that has to be removed before I can reinstall it. I understand my next step would be to remove it from the registry. My question is, should I take this approach or is there any other safe method? Thank you for any help.

K.I.S.S Thanks for the tip, I downloaded "NAV2004 registry removal.reg" (I don't know when Symantec added this icon to their site) I spent numerous times on this site looking for solutions, even sending them an email about my problem. Anyway, after the download and still not letting me install, giving me an internal error message, I removed the file causing the problem (SAVSCAN.EXE) I was then able to reinstall NortonAV2004.
Thanks again

Get a copy of Windows Install Cleanup, run it.
Uninstall any references to previous versions of Norton Anti Virus. Next step is Very Important.
Make a backup copy of registry first, then run regedit and delete any references to Norton Anti Virus versions. You can find help on backing up registry in your help files or on Microsofts XP Website.
Use Windows Explorer and Search for any file references pertaining to Norton Anti Virus and delete them, making sure they are Norton Anti Virus files.
Make sure you have a fresh copy of Windows installer, located at C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe /V and that it is running when you try to reinstall NAV 2004.
To make sure its running go to administrative tools in control panel and then to Services, scroll down to Windows installer, and start or restart the service.
Now you should be able to install NAV 2004. Good Luck
