I cannot clear the history for IE 5.5 on NT workstation 4. All other posts on this subject suggest deleting the files in DOS. I don't have this option as the drive is NTFS.

Any other ideas? Peter Meachem

You should be able to access a command shell - Start/Run cmd.exe does not work? Nate Gagne

How have you tried deleting the history?

Did you shutdown IE and goto the Control Panel and try from there?

Johnny

If so try this:
If the cached addresses are still listed in the Address box in Internet Explorer, use the following steps:
Quit Internet Explorer.

Delete all of the values except for the (Default) value from the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
NOTE : Values in this registry key are listed as Url1, Url2, Url3, and so on. If you delete only some values and the remaining values are not in consecutive numerical order, only some of the remaining entries are listed in the Address box. To prevent this behavior from occurring, rename the remaining values so that they are in consecutive numerical order.

Johnny, deleting from Control Panel looks just the same as from IE, that is , it appears to delete the history, but actually doesn't. Typedurl's aren't actually the problem, but I've cleared them anyway. Peter Meachem

The only history view that isn't getting cleared is the 'By Order Visited Today' one. When I switched the machine on this morning (history is saved for 0 days), the history was cleared. So I set the date back to yesterday and there was yesterday's history again. So it's not actually getting deleted, it's just that you can't see it. If I set the Days to keep pages to 20 days I can't see anything apart from todays, but if I set the clock back, there are all the old ones. Good coding eh. Peter Meachem
