I am running w2k pro
I have a reg_key that I cannot change and I should be able to change it.
AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.default\MailBeep\.Current
C:|winnt\bonewah.wav

I would like to change this wav but the system will not let me.
I am local user and administrator of this machine.
Any information would be well apriciated.
Thanks
Dreamer1

aside from the mistype of the "c:|winnt\bonewah.wav" ..
what error does it give you? access denied? file in-use?

try changing that path to %SystemRoot%\winnt\bonewah.wav instead.

Hello, dreamer1.

My guess is that you may have used .reg to import/merge it to the registry with incorrect line. If the you want to edit the root HKEY_USERS, the .reg file would look like what follows. Call it MailBeep.reg, say, and doubleclick it to merge.

;---------below & excluding this line---
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\MailBeep\Current]
@="C:\\winnt\\bonewah.wav"

;---------above & excluding this line---
