Logged into an NT 4.0 server as administrator. The server participates in a domain.

We can create shares without error. The default access for "Everyone" is there, but when we click on "Add Users and Groups", the user list does not appear. Instead, there is the following message:

"Unable to browse the selected domain because the following error occurred: The parameter is incorrect."

We can click the search button, and add users that way without a problem. The server can browse the network, and User Manager for Domains shows the entire list of users without error.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

We get this sometimes, particularly when the network is loaded or we are adding access rights for new users / groups. SP6 cures some of the problems, UM replication also helps.

I find going to a command prompt and doing net accounts /sync beforehand sometimes stops it. Of course nothing is foolproof in GatesLand...

You didn't specify what the client OS is, but I have run across this error in Windows 9x and it specificly relates to the Remote Pipes drivers, version mismatches and the like.

If the OS is NT...then applying/re-applying the current Service Pack should resolve it.

If the OS in Win 95 you can resolve the issue by downloading DCOM95 1.3 from Microsoft and install.

dxd
