I can browse some sites but not others. IP of server with ICS and XP firewall is 192.168.0.1. IP of client is 192.168.0.2. DNS and default gateway for client are set to 192.168.0.1. Connection-specific DNS suffix is mshome.net. I have also tried setting ip and dns to automatic. Some sites come up straight away but others just sit there trying.

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Sorry....both machines XP Pro with SP1 and Office SP2

I discovered the problem. It was the same problem as my Outlook not receiving email attachments. I noticed a network bridge that was showing as disconnected on the server. I ran the network setup wizard again and it errored saying the network bridge was not connected. I ran the setup again and it completed. I then got setup to created a floppy and ran it on the laptop. Voila....all IE sites working again and email attachments working.

I still don't understand but appreciate all the advice!!! Hopefully this might help someone else in the future.

Petzl,

Good for you. But I shudder when I see that someone has run the XP Network setup.

In the main, there is absolutely no reason for a network bridge. The XP setup program loves to create them for 1394 and any wireless device.

If you see a bridge device in Network Connections, and did not specificly ask and create one, remove it.
