Hi,

I am relatively new to setting up VPNs using Windows XP Pro. It seemed fairly straight forward .. but ...

I set up a receive VPN connection on PC#1. I then went to PC#2 and connected to it. On PC#2, in the Network Connections screen, it shows the VPN connection and it states it IS CONNECTED. I then try to browse to that computer (even tried to browse using the IP address), and it cannot find the PC. I have stopped PC#1's firewall (I will put it back up), but still cannot browse the PC.

PC#1 has an EXTERNAL Internet IP address assigned to it, and PC#2 has an internal IP address. Do the IP address ranges make a difference?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dale

Are both pc's in the same network and location? If so why are you doing a VPN between both?

No, they are about 8 miles apart. Different locations and networks.

If you have a public IP address on one, and a private IP address on another, and you are trying to VPN with an IPSec tunnel using NAT/NAT transversal/reverse route configs, the NAT will screw you up, as it will try to translate an IP address that is already routeable on the internet. If it is Windows as the client, what is serving as the VPN server?

Windows XP Pro is ALSO the VPN server.

Per your post, you said that having an IP address that is already routeable on the Internet will cause a problem. So, I assume that must be my problem. The VPN server has an external IP address. Is this possible to do?

Thanks for your reply.
