Hi,

I have one PC that sometimes cannot boot at all, I don't even see POST, and sometimes it boots but froze when it starts windows and rarely it run perfectly :(. I thought it was the harddrive but when I changed with another HD, it doesn't make any different.

Any idea what should be checked?

Thanks,

winoto,
Doesn't even see post? do you hear a beep, can you see the hard drive activity light flash?
Also was this second hard drives operating system configured on this system? obviously drivers etc will be quite different.

Check for bulging/leaking capacitors on the motherboard

Have you another power supply you can try?

Add to that list... a FLAKEY or Dying PSU (Power Supply Unit)...

btw. it is what I am betting on...

sorry for the delay.

There is no beep when it freeze before POST, there is no OS on second HD. This PC only has 1 HD, I was trying with spare HD to see if the problem is the HD.

I'll try to switch the PSU first because i hear high pitch noise when I plug the PSU after that I'll try to check the RAM.

Thanks,

I don't know anymore what I have to do, I changed the PSU from another PC (PC-B), tested many times and it worked, changed back with the old PSU (PC-A) didn't work.

So I decided to throw that PSU, use PSU from PC-B for PC-A and I bought new PSU for PC-B, guess what??? Now I can't boot PC-A again, I use different HD on PC-A, it boot, I move HD from PC-A to PC-B it can boot.
I think I have to reinstall with new hd again :(

Check the CASE of PC-A for SHORTING... like a standoff Brass holder or a screw that got lodged in between the case and the MOBO...
