I am in charge of backing up our company's data and this includes a server that has Act! Premium 2005 (not sure if for workgroups) on it. I unfortunately do not know a thing about Act! and the admin who is in charge of the server doesn't either. I really just need to know one thing. The following files are not getting backed up, this is the log of why:

Unable to open the item \\ACT1\C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ACT\ACT for Win 7\Databases\ACT7Demo.ADF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ACT\ACT for Win 7\Databases\ACT7Demo.ALF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\AlamoGroup.ADF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\AlamoGroup.ALF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Alamo_Industrial_Contacts.ADF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Alamo_Industrial_Contacts.ALF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Contacts.ADF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Contacts.ALF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Synch RDBs\RCookish2005.ADF - skipped. Unable to open the item \\ACT1\D:\ACT Databases\Synch RDBs\RCookish2005.ALF - skipped.

I have found instructions for how to back up SQL files and instructions for how to back up regular files. Are the files listed regular files or SQL files and either way can someone tell me how to back them up? I have found that when the log says a file is skipped it usually is because the file is open. We are not going to use the Advanced open file option available in our Backup Exec for some good reason (that I can't remember). Thank you very much for any help you can give me.

ADL and ALF are SQL files. They cannot be backed up while the SQL server is running (it starts when Windows starts).

You can use Net Stop command before backup and Net Start command after backup if you backup program allows you to enter commands this way.

If you have the Workgroups version of ACT!, you can have the scheduler run it's own backup and then have BackupExec backup that file instead of the live data.

Okay that is good because we are already going to be backing up the SQL database by having act run its own backup. Thank you so much for the information! That helps a lot.
