Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I am having a really primitive problem with configuring a media set for use with our backups.
Every month we carry out full backups of our servers to Backup-To-Disk folders. We then duplicate these backups to tape for long term storage (10 years) and empty the Backup-To-Disk folders in time for the next months backup.
I am having difficulty creating a media set to accept the duplicate backups. I want to keep appending the duplicate backups to the tapes, moving on to the next tape as each becomes full, and to keep adding over successive months. I am finding that I have to start on a fresh tape each month, regardless of how much free space is available of the previous tape. I can manage to put several duplicates on each tape, as long as I do not eject the tape, but as soon as the tape is ejected from the drive, I can no longer add new data to it.
The duplication process takes a couple of days, and we do this once a month, filling about one and a half LTO-2's so over time, the wasted capacity is going to be quite high.
Can anyone suggest appropriate setttings for the media set. My set is currently defines as Append Period 3 Months and Overwrite Period 10 Years, but whenever I put last months tape in, to use up any remaining free capacity, it is immediately ejected and I get the message:
The media in drive 'CERTANCE 1' is currently alllocated and not available for overwrite operations.
Any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Paul
