I have a problem i cannot add a NT4 workstation to the domain it gives me an error saying that the domain is not available and verify user password. I am sure of my login and password informations and the domain name i am typing is correct also.

What could cause this problem? i am running Windows NT4 workstation with service pack 6a and latest update. The DC i am trying to connect is a Win2k domain configured has DHCP server.

The NT4 workstation is getting an IP address and i am able to ping the domain name with his name or IP address.

Any idea of what i could do ? Thanks a lot

Martin

Trying adding the computer with the full Domain name (e.g. domain.local)

If that doesn't work signon with the FQN of the administrator (e.g. administrator@domain.local)

You can also use the old method Domain\administrator

On the Server
Check your domain name (pre-windows 2000)

Go to Active Directory Users and computers
Right Click on the Domain name
Click on Properities and it should be under the General tab.

Also you can try adding the computer to the Domain under Active Directory Users and Computers.

Go to the computers OU and right click on it. Highlght new and click on Computer. Then try adding the workstation to the domain.

Hope this helps,

Try putting an entry in your lmhosts file.
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc. rename lmhosts.sam to just lmhosts. in the file enter the following:

ip address server #PRE #DOM:YOURDOMIN
example
192.168.0.1 PDC1 #PRE #DOM:MYDOMAIN

Save the file, go to the command line. type nbtstat -R
Then try joining the domain again.

Probably be a DNS problem.

Configure the NT box to use the Win2k domain controller as it's DNS server.

Hope this helps.
