cannot add a user with Account Manager

I am using SCO 5.0.6. For some reason I can no longer add a new user using the Account Manager. It does add the user to the passwd file, but not to /u/users. I have to mkdir username and then copy someone elses .profile, then I have to change owner & group etc. This is very combersome. What could have happened and how can I remedy this?

i think there is an option for create home dir in it.
