Hi,

We have a SunFire 280R that I cannot connect into from the network. I got a serial cable and connected my laptop to the serial port of the machine. I used HyperTerminal to connect and was prompted to login. I entered the root username and attempted to enter the password I was given. It said the login details were incorrect and prompted me again. Again I tried the password and it did not work. I then tried another that we have for a similar machine and again it failed. Eventually after trying to enter the root password for the 5th or 6th time it just said invalid login and did not prompt me again.

I waited awhile but still did not get a prompt. I eventually shutdown and restarted the server (via power on/off) but now I am not see any information when the system is trying to boot up nor am I being prompted for the password.

Does anyone know what is happening and how I can resolve it.

Thanks,

Toddyl

serial connect and powerswitch to diag mode usually works. If it does not work use x-link cable to connect to another Sun instead of a PC/terminalemulator and use "tip hardwire" command (look at /etc/remote to see, what modes and speeds are configured). If you don't see anything there thing about calling Sun or other technical services...

Best Regards, Franz
