hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I run a network of 20 comps. we have 2 servers set up, one is Server 2003 and the other Server 2000.

The problem I'm having is that I can't connect to the share on Server 2000 by its name i.e. \\servername\share. However, I can access it via \\000.000.000.000\share etc.

can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening, as I can access the share on Server 2003 normally.

The error message I get is: windows cannot find "\\server\c$". check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the start button and then clicking search.

Any help will be greatly received.

Sounds like a DNS issue. Are you running DNS? If so, is your workstation pointed to the correct DNS server?

What happens if you ping the servername? Or, if you do an nslookup?

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!
