It just happened.
Working this weekend and every time I tried to save an image, PSP 7 would give me that infernal message:
KERNEL32.DLL at 0187:bff886df.

And variations on the theme.
I tried to go into all my settings - and did manage a few,
but it will NOT let me access "File Format ssociations"
AND NOW it will not let me save images or "save copy as"
and I get the warning and it closes.
PSP 7 is the most expensive and cherished program.
I have 8 and 9 - but much prefer 7.
I have checked and rechecked everything and tried all
the classic "tips" to no avail.

It is absurd to purchase another.
I DEEPLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP GIVEN.

My husband wo is so computer savvy - oh yeah -
insisted I *must* have done something.
Yes, I did - created ART.
That is my job.
But I did nothing that would cause this program, which I have had for years to suddenly misbehave.

I await any help most eagerly.

Thanks.

MY PROBLEM IS SOLVED! Well...MOSTLY!
As I continued my quest,I stumbled upon a simple procedure from I needed to set PSP to defaults in order to gain
access to the File Format Associations, and other things
so I could save my files and "save as" last copy.
I also wanted to save my sanity.
I ran NORTON first to make sure everything was in order,
and that the registry was solid. It was.I copied all
the folders, and I moved my creations as well as the originals i.e., "presets" in each PSP folder, and all the drivers etc - everything PSP, and put it all on my external drive, just in case.So I had PSP 7 on my external drive.I backed up all the folders and "guts" and followed this advice from flyerspsp.com:

>Resetting PSP to default (deleting PSP's registry) can fix many problems within PSP, errors caused by a corrupt registry missing or grayed out tools and other irregularities. The big draw back from resetting is the loss of custom colors you have made and having to redo the preferences. To delete and re-write PSP's registry (reset defaults) do the following. This works in versions 5, 6 & 7. Below is the path for PSP 7. You can also click any short cut icon, or the PSP icon in Paint Shop Pro's folder. This was modified from what Jasc put out for version 5 which was hit and miss.

Go to START/PROGRAMS/Jasc Software Inc/ PAINT SHOP PRO 7. Immediately after you click on the PAINT SHOP PRO 7 icon press and hold CTRL+ALT on your keyboard. Paint Shop Pro will ask you if you would like to delete the registry settings for Paint Shop Pro. Select YES.

HALLELUJAH! It worked!
I then set about doing everything from scratch
and starting moving all the goodies, like frames and tubes,
back to their primary home; I have other paths from my
own art files and set the File Location Prefs.
Just did it all.
And everything was fine, I could open all the preference
folders and set it all up fresh...

ONE PROBLEM REMAINED.

The damned 'PROFILES' folder - everytime I saved an image
PSP defaulted to the PROFILE folder!
I went to the CMYK Preferences and set them to DEFAULT,
all the color management and printing set ups that make up
a PROFILE.

BUT I am still getting that folder when I save images!
So, for now I created a folder under the PROFILE one
and named t as an ART folder; I can save images there,
and move them to specific folders later.

But of course this PROFILE THING is now bugging me!
When PSP was healthy it would remember to open my
main personal ART folder and all it's subfolders.
It won't do this, even with everything set to default.

I am satfisfied and much happier now; just gotta get
that "PROFILES" problem fixed!
