cannot access file, file is in use by another user

we have people using a shared file on the network and when someone's pc locks up while using the file it will be stuck in that mode.
is there a way to unlock shared files (access, excell, word)

Right Click on the computer in which the file is being shared. Click Manage, double click the Shared Folder option in the left pane. Now choose open files. If the file is displayed, you can double click on it and choose to close the file.
