Check the base function tray for leaking capacitors before you go too far into it. If that checks out OK, I'd hook a monitor/keyboard to the system and watch the boot process - make sure it shows 256MB of RAM and begins booting properly. It should stop at the Windows NT "blue screen" - thats as far as it will let you watch.
