cannnot create datatype BLOB and CLOB if not install intermedia

hi,
I could like to know if the Oracle 8.1.7 server did not install intermedia, can I create BLOB and CLOB datatype table and columns?
Thanks.

You do not need Intermedia as well as any other cartridge to use lobs.
