Cancelling a Sales Order?

Is there a preferred method for cancelling a sales order that will properly correct the quantity. The users have been cancelling orders and when they look at location details it shows a quantity to show as being on a sales order. I have looked at the data for the item and have noticed that on an order there is a quantity that was cancelled and is still appearing in location details. I would like to find out the best method for cancelling an order so that all quantity amounts are properly reflected for this item.

We are using ACCPAC 5.4A with SQL.

Set the quantity ordered = 0, or delete the line from the order.
Check that you have all the Accpac service packs installed.

Will deleting the line on the order create any issues that may effect a data integrity for the data.
