OK, so after the last round of BlackBerry parts I had to order took a month to arrive from China, I went looking for a supplier in the US with comparable prices.

Well, first problem; no such thing exists. Prices in the U.S. for exactly the same parts are 4x what I can get them from China for.

But I thought I hit pay dirt... I found a site with a .US tld... at
However, after reading their FAQ, I think perhaps they're not from this continent....

Now, the question remains thus:

Also, from wikipedia:
Under .US Nexus Requirements .US domains may be registered only by the following qualified entities:

* Any United States citizen or resident,
* Any United States entity, such as organizations or corporations,
* Any foreign entity or organization with a bona fide presence in the United States

To ensure that these requirements are met, NeuStar frequently conducts "spot checks" on registrant information.

To prevent anonymous registrations that do not meet these requirements, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration has ruled that registrants of .us domains may not secure private domain name registration [1].

Registrants are required to provide complete contact information without omissions. [2]

Domain names corresponding to 5-digit or 9-digit US postal codes or telephone numbers are reserved; a project is underway at zipcode.us to provide locality-specific information under a full set of 5-digit postal-code .us subdomains.

A whois shows godaddy as the registrar, and contacts all from Hong Kong.

I blame the French influence.

The internet - allowing those who don't know what they're talking about to have their say.

But I own some .com domains and I don't have a presence in the US. In fact, one of those is my companies name so I really don't want to have to give that up.

Have I been unethical then?

Of course a "bond fide presence in the US" probably includes a "having a .us domain name".

guitarzan,

Thanks for posting the wikipedia info. I tried it out by just posting my zip code with .us into the browser, and find it sorta neat. It's a great idea, I think, if it really catches some momentum.
